1851 Born on the 20th July 1851.
1858 When his elder brother died in 1858 Cromartie became the Marque ss of Stafford. (which was the courtesy title adopted by the eldest s on of the Duke of Sutherland).
1874-86 Was the Liberal MP for Sutherland.
1884 Married Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine.
1885 daughter Victoria Elizabeth was born
1888 son George Granville was born
1890 son Alistair St. Clair was born
1892 Cromartie succeeded to his fathers dukedom.
1893 daughter Rosemary Millicent was born
1895-6 Served as mayor of Longton
1899 The Sutherland Institute was opened in Longton on land which had be en given by Cromartie.
1907 As a supporter of federation he offered (in 1907) Trentham Hall to t he six towns on federation. (this offer was never taken up)
1913 Died at Dunrobin Castle on 27 June 1913.
