Individual note:
Our dear brother Henry after having been 2 years resident in India was ord ered with his regiment to the attack on Bhurtpoor. He was among the fir st of those who sealed the walls & received a wound in the forehead whi ch caused the blood to flow but his brave and ardent spirit urged h im on & in his progress thro' the town he was aimed at by a soldier & rece ived a severe wound in the thigh, after a few days illness the dear fell ow breathed his last. His remains were followed to the grave by his who le regiment and a ?rude monument raised by the men to his memory, his brot hers remark that this was a far higher testimony of his worth than if t he officers had built a splendid tomb.
Frank and Louisa have since pitched their tents near the place of his buri al & have had the high satisfaction of conversing with the pious soldie rs who attended him in his illness. He bore his suffering with manly forti tude & for his acceptance with God, he relied on that saviour whose favo ur he had sought in the days of youth & health surrounded by the gaiety a nd temptation with which India abounds.
He was open generous ? and affectionate.

Diray of Mrs Charles Candy
