Margaret Catherine - Born in 1822. At the 1881 Census she was record ed as unmarried, born in Bengal/East Indies, living with her unmarried aun ts Isabella and Mary M.Keith [presumably an abbreviation of Mouat Keit h] at 3 Park Street, Charlton, Kent. The 1901 Census for Hammersmith, Lond on, showed her as "living on own means". Her 1910 Probate states "... of 30 Portland Place, Leamington Spa. Spinster, died 5/3/1910. Proba te on 8th October to James Edward de Winton Denning (gentleman) [son of h er sister Elizabeth?] and John Alexander Ellerton (solicitor) [nephew]. Ef fects £442."

Elizabeth Mary - Born in 1824. Married James.Denning and had 7 sons a nd 4 daughters. The 1881 Census for Wingate Road, Middlesex shows h er as a widow (56, b. Camberwell, Annuitant) living with her sons Jon.Ed W inston Denning (head), Apolliott, and George Mouat Keith. An Elizabeth Ma ry Ellerton married Rev. Richard Denning in 1889 (FRC Index Qtr.2, W.Ha m) - possibly a brother of her late husband.

At the time of the 1881 Census John (age shown as 40 in error), his wife " Aliacia" (38 instead of 48), 7 of his children, and 3 servants were livi ng at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex. At this time three of the ir sons were boarders at the Marine Parade College at Great Clacton, Essex .

The 1901 Census for Leamington Priors, Warwickshire showed John (69) wi th his wife "Alicea" (59, born Ramsgate/Kent), sons Benjamin, Noel and War wick, and niece Dora Ellerton.

His 1916 Probate: "John Ellerton of 30 Portland Place, Leamington, died 6/ 3/1916. Probate on 25th May to Frederick George Ellerton (bank manager)[so n], Alice Isabella Ellerton (spinster)[daughter], and William Arthur Colem an (solicitor). Effects £472".

Brief details of his children, the first 6 of which were from his first ma rriage:

John Alexander - b.1856. At the 1881 Census he was shown as "24, b. Graves end/Kent, Solicitor Asst." living with Job Gould and his family in Tavisto ck Crescent, London. He married Eliza Eleanor Woollatt in 1884 (FRC Ind ex for Brentford, Qtr.3) - one son, who died in infancy. See 1911 and 19 19 Probates for John and Eliza respectively. The 1901 Census for Clapham/L ondon recorded John (44, born in Milton Gravesend/Kent, Solicitor), with h is wife Eliza (35, b. Chelsea/Middx, "Vocalist Mrine"[?]).

Emily Margaret - b.1860 at Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.3). At the 1881 Cens us she was recorded as a "Governess" living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, Lon don, Middlesex. She married Frederick George Thomas in 1882 (FRC Index f or Kensington, Q.3) and had 4 sons and 3 daughters.

Howard Henry - b.1861 at Kenington (FRC Index, Qtr.4). Emigrated to Cana da (probably prior to the 1881 Census, as he did not show up on either th is or the 1901 return). Married Isabel Owen, one child Philis Irene (b.190 6, Llanelly).. He was a banker.

William Mouat Keith - b.July 1863 at Paddington. At the 1881 Census he w as living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex - a "Commercial Cle rk Ship Valuer". He married Alice Wrangler, probably the sister of Beatri ce who married his brother Warwick. The "InGeneas Database" includes a pas senger record showing that William went to Canada in 1884. In 1924 he publ ished the document "Ellerton" providing details of his grandfather's wo rk in translating the New Testament into the Bengali language while in Ind ia. As far is known he was a solicitor in London. William died on 15/4/19 42 while living at 272 Bury Street, Edmontn, Middlesex. Note: the li st of interments for the Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery, Surrey, Canada sho ws an "Edmund Mouat Keith Ellerton, died 19/10/1990" - possibly a descenda nt of William. A notice in the London Gazette reported that Edmund's partn ership Mayell Lockton & Ellerton, Architects and Surveyors (St.James Hous e, 173 Holland Park Avenue, London W11) was dissolved in March 1940.

Benjamin - b.1865. At the time of the 1881 Census he was a boarder at t he Marine Parade College at Great Clacton. The 1901 Census for Leamingt on Priors showed him living with his parents, and a "Commercial Traveller ". Married Kathleen Daisy Christian, no children. His 1920 Probate: "Benja min Ellerton of Wimbledon Common Farm, Wimbledon, Surrey. Died 12/6/192 0. Probate on 24th June to Kathleen Daisy Ellerton, widow. Effects £3,887 ."

Alice Isabella - b.1866 at Paddington. At the 1881 Census (shown as aged 1 2) she was living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex. No tra ce of her in the 1901 Census. Died a spinster in 1935.

Charles Edward - b.1870? in Paddington. At the time of the 1881 Cens us he was recorded as "Charles E.P. Ellerton", an 11-year-old boarder at t he Marine Parade College at Great Clacton. He married Maude. No trace of h im in the 1901 Census. A notice in the London Gazette showed that "Charl es Edward Dixon Ellerton of Walsall, Stafford, Lock Manufacturer" di ed on 23/12/1941.

Henry Byam - b.1871, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.3). At the time of the 18 81 Census he was a boarder at the Marine Parade College at Great Clacto n. On graduation he went to Nottingham County Asylum, Radcliffe-on-Trent f or 8 years. No obvious trace of him in the 1901 Census, but in 1902 he bec ame Senior Assistant Medical Officer at Leavesden Asylum, Hertfordshir e. In 1909 he took up the post of Inspector General of Mental Hospita ls at Goodna, Queensland, Australia. Married Florence Hunter Caldwell (b.1 880 at Portrush, Co.Antrim, N.I.) at Oxley on 27th May 1916 - no known chi ldren. Dr.Ellerton was slightly built and had a permanent spinal disabilit y, a legacy from his university rugby days. He wore glasses from his yout h, and was a non-smoker and strictly teetotal. In 1925 he founded the Gail es Golf Club (Goodna), and their website provided most of the biographic al facts related here. He retired in 1937 and moved to Balgowlah, Sydne y, where he died in July 1951. Florence died on 3/11/1969 after being stru ck by a car.

Edith Mary - b.1872, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.4). Died in infancy same y ear.

Edith Caroline - b.1873, Kensington (FRC Index 1874, Qtr.1). At the 1881 C ensus she was living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex. The 19 01 Census for Llandyssil, Cardiganshire showed Edith as 27, b. Westbour ne Park/London, Governess. She later[?] married Burton Baker, who was sho wn in the Census at Hackney/London - "23, b. Suffolk, Drapers Warehouseman "). As far as is known they had no children.

Herbert Parker (twin) - b.1874, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.4). Died in inf ancy in 1875.

James Alfred (twin) - b.1874. Died in infancy same year

Rosalie Mary Agnes - b.1877, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.3). At the 1881 Ce nsus she was living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex. The 19 01 Census for Islington, London showed Rosalie as "23, b. Bayswater/Londo n, Governess". Married G.F.Herbert-Smith and had one child (Jeanne, who di ed aged 3). Rosalie died in 1936.

Noel Arnold - b.1879, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr.1). At the 1881 Cens us he was living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, London, Middlesex.The 1901 Cen sus for Leamington Priors showed him as a "Solicitors Clerk Law", living w ith his parents. As far as is known he did not marry.

[Warwick] Barthorp Mardenbrough - b. 1880, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr3 - " Barthorp M. Ellerton"). At the 1881 Census "Barthorp Mardenborough" was sh own as an 8-month old female [sic] living at 3 Aldridge Road Villas, Londo n, Middlesex. The 1901 Census for Leamington Priors showed Warwick [possib ly a nickname coigned from the county in which he now lived?] as a "Riport er" [sic] still living with his parents. He married Beatrice Wrangler - pr obably the sister of Alice who married his brother William. They had child ren Beryl (1911-1941), Patricia Mary (b.1919), and Francis.

Philip Wilmer - b.1881, Kensington (FRC Index, Qtr3). Died of dipther ia in 1890.
