Note for: Sydney John Vine, 1888 - 22 JAN 1963 Index
Lived in Peaslake at time of Donald's death
Valencia became Linacre House became Egypt Wood became Pucklechurch (191
0)
An un-named house is shown on this site on a map dated 1910. The first men
tion of Valencia is in the electoral roll of 1929, when the occupants we
re Harriet BANKS and Louise CHESHIRE. In the same year a Maud Banks was li
ving at The Red House, although there is no reason to assume that Harri
et and Maud were related.
The following year gives different names: Kathleen Maud and Sydney John VI
NE, together with Hilda May HUTSON. Kelly's Directory for 1934 shows the r
esident as Captain S J Vine. In 1938 Hilda Hutson had gone, having been re
placed by Doris Gwendoline KNOWLES, and the Vine family had increased by t
wo (presumably children reaching the age of 21), Donald Martin and Patri
ck John.
The electoral roll of 1945 shows the house, now renamed Linacre House, occ
upied by Gladys E and Oswald MARRIOTT. Eileen Maud MURRAY was also the
re in 1945; by 1950 she had left and been replaced by Rhoda M B BISHOP. Fi
ve years later the Marriotts had moved and the new occupants were Kathle
en A and William M RUSSELL.
Egypt Wood, at the location of Valencia, is shown on a map dated 1964.
During the late 1960s John & Bridget HEYWORTH lived in the house, renami
ng it Pucklechurch after the village where John's father had been broug
ht up.
At the end of the 20th century the owners were Rita and Phil MARGRAVE, wi
th daughters Lauren and Lucy.
