Morley Observer newspaper obituary for Thomas Caterall Bedford that appear ed in in the issue dated
22nd November 1873:

Death of Mr Thomas Caterall Bedford, of Dean Hall Colliery Morley

We are sorry to have to record the death of Mr Thomas Bedford, the senior
partner of Dean Hall Colliery, Morley. He was taken seriously ill about
five weeks ago, and died on Tuesday, the 18th inst. Mr Bedford was not a
man who took a prominent part in public life. He was emphatically a man o f
business; and besides being the senior partner of the above named firm, he
was the Mining Engineer for the Great Northern Railway Company, and also
held other important appointments. For 14 years he has been one of the
Churchwardens at Gildersome, and about seven years ago, he, along with Mr
Ogden, was nominated as a candidate for the Burial Board, and was returned
by a large majority. Such was the excess of feeling in his favour, that
when the poll was declared, and it became known that he was at the head, h e
was besieged by his supporters and carried on their shoulders some distanc e
through the town. The remains of Mr Bedford was interred at Gildersome
cemetery, at noon on Tuesday; and though the invitations had only been sen t
to a few, yet friends from all parts of the riding attended the funeral.
There were also present a large portion of men and boys connected with the
works. Mr Bedford leaves a widow, three sons and six daughters.
