Hi Nikki,
The 1851 census index for Morley has a George Stockwell aged 6 months on t
he
same page number (52) as John and Martha Stockwell, both aged 22, all thre
e
born Morley. This index doesn't give any further details, so there's no
guarantee these are George's parents, but the chances must be pretty good.
There are not many more Stockwells in this index, so I'll list them all in
case they are related. All on page 47 are: Joseph (44), Sarah (44), Lancel
ot
(21), Edward (17), Ann (12), Martha (11), Lucy (8), and Betty (5), all bor
n
Morley except Sarah who was born Gildersome. Joseph & Sarah might well be
John's parents and George's grandparents. The only other Stockwell is Ann
aged 75, born Blackrod, Lancashire, who could conceivably be Joseph's
mother.
Hope this helps. I would suggest you check FreeBMD for a marriage between
John Stockwell and Martha somebody around 1850. I don't think YorkshireBMD
covers Morley yet, although its coverage of the Leeds area is very good.
Regards,
Helen Cushion.
