Individual note:
Dear Nikki,
Thank you for your reply.
May I suggest that perhaps your aunt got the name of Armenia's husband wro
ng. His father was Leonard and his son was Leonard. There are a fair num
ber of Leonards in this particular tree. He belonged to the armorial branc
h, where the eldest son was generally called Leonard.
Armenia was on the 1901 Census as under:
RG13 3406 Folio 104 P3 Wallasey, Parish of St. Hilary, Cheshire
Broch Cottage
Armenia Fosbrook Head Mar 31 yrs? born London
Mary A. Fosbrook Dau. 2yrs born Wallasely, Cheshire
Leonard Fosbrook Son 7 weeks born Wallasey, Cheshire
Ellen Roberts Servant 33yrs Dom. Nurse born Bala, Wales
Jane Rowlands Servant 17yrs Dom. Cook born Bala, Wales.
The reason you couldn't find her on the 1901 Census was because she was in
dexed as Hannah Fosbrook. Her husband was not with them on the 1901 Cens
us but on his death in 1903 his address was given as Broch Cottage, althou
gh he died in Hull. His occupation was Cotton Merchant so it is possib
le he may have been abroad at the time. I have him arriving in Boston U
SA on 1.9.1899 on the ship Canada from Liverpool, according to Boston pass
enger lists..
Armenia died 16.3.1949 aged 86yrs and her will was proved 9.7.1949. At ti
me of her death she was resident at Ashlands, Cudham Lane, Cudham, Kent.
She left everything to her son Leonard and the will was made in 1929. Val
ue £1192. 9s. 0d.
She was also mentioned in her husband's admin. in 1903, he left £100.00. A
lso in her sister in law Mary's will in 1942 when she was left £100.00.
If you would like copies of the wills then I would be pleased to send y
ou them, though at present my scanner is not working, so it will have to w
ait a while.
Hope this helps to clarify matters for you.
By the way I have been researching the Fosbrook name and its variants sin
ce 1979 so have amassed quite a lot of information on them.
Regards,
Helen Fosbrook
